Report on FENDERIST Vol.09 – BURN

The 4th edition of the custom car battle event BURN has just concluded, and this time the Best 8 members included an SUV like the X-Trail. This was a new development that we had never seen before.
The lineup was as follows:
G50 President, 17 Crown ×2, HCR32 Skyline, S15 Silvia ×2, X-Trail, and MR-S.
Every single vehicle was built with incredible attention to detail and was truly entertaining to watch.
The champion, the G50 President, was meticulously crafted from the engine bay all the way down to the underbody. At first glance it looks like a standard Nissan President, but underneath it’s an entirely different machine. Other standout builds included an S15 drift car with a heavily modified engine bay and an X-Trail cleverly constructed using genuine OEM parts. Each car proudly displayed its own unique style and philosophy.
Japan has always loved categorizing things, and while mixed-genre car gatherings may no longer be rare today, in the past it was almost unheard of for such completely different types of cars to gather in one place. And even if they did, there was rarely any real respect between the different scenes.
That’s why I find it amazing that we’ve now entered an era where these wildly different vehicles can battle each other in what can only be described as “mixed martial arts on wheels.”
After the event, I asked the MC “Hagarin” for his thoughts:
“I’ve always described BURN as a kind of mixed martial arts battle, and this time I really felt that expression fits perfectly.
We hand the mic to the competitors and let them talk about the highlight points of their beloved cars in front of the crowd every time they advance. Every single driver passionately speaks about the time, knowledge, effort, and hard work they put in — and above all, they warmly thank the shops and friends who supported them. That’s what leaves the biggest impression on me every event.”
“One of the best things about BURN is that after the battles, real communication and bonds are formed between the competitors. As the organizer, that makes me genuinely happy. I want to keep supporting the sympathy and connection that car enthusiasts share through custom like this for many years to come.”
