Japanese Bike Vibes at FENDERIST Vol.06

We would now like to introduce some of the motorcycles displayed at FENDERIST JAPAN 2023.

In addition to cars, a significant number of motorcycles were exhibited at the event. The featured bikes were mainly Japan’s distinctive mini motorcycles, known as “4 Mini” models, including the Honda Ruckus, Grom, DAX, Monkey, and Chaly.

Customization trends leaned towards two distinct styles: vintage-inspired builds and street-style modifications. While some bikes remained relatively simple, many showcased intricate and highly detailed custom work, making the motorcycle area truly captivating.

Japanese Scooter Culture

Delving a bit deeper, the customization of scooters such as the Yamaha Jog, Honda Dio, and Tact has a long history in Japan and has been popular since the past. These scooters were originally designed for everyday errands, such as grocery shopping, but their affordable prices and accessibility led many young people in the 1990s to adopt and modify them extensively.

At that time, customizing scooters often carried a slightly rebellious image. However, over the years, that perception has shifted. Today, they are seen as “cute,” “stylish,” or even “nostalgic.”

Despite the global trend of younger generations moving away from personal vehicles, Japan continues to maintain a strong and deeply rooted customization culture. In fact, the scene appears to be growing again in recent years.
